THE GOVERNMENT OF THE REPUBLIC OF THE PHILIPPINES AND THE GOVERNMENT OF CANADA are each convinced of the desirability of providing citizens of the other country who have high academic standing an opportunity to undertake graduate studies, postgraduate studies or post-doctoral research. We are also convinced that it is desirable that citizens of each country have an opportunity to undertake studies that include learning about each other.
THEREFORE, the Government of the Republic of the Philippines and the Government of Canada are initiating a Reciprocal Offer of Scholarships, which respectively will be called the Philippine Scholarship Awards for Canadian Students and the Government of Canada Awards.
The Reciprocal Offer of Scholarships will provide an opportunity for citizens of high academic standing from each of the Republic of the Philippines and Canada to undertake graduate studies, postgraduate studies or post-doctoral studies at a participating post-secondary institution in the other country. The Reciprocal Offer of Scholarships will provide an opportunity for applicants to undertake studies in a variety of fields, including the humanities and social sciences, with the inclusion of significant Philippine or Canadian content, respectively. Scholarships will be for a period of up to 12 months, depending on the program of study, with an opportunity for application for renewal of up to 12 months. Scholarships will include payment of significant expenses for the selected recipients, including return airfare, tuition fees, a living allowance and medical insurance.
Selected recipients of the Government of Canada Awards will be able to undertake studies at any Canadian University, contingent upon the successful application to the University. Selected recipients of the Philippine Scholarship Awards for Canadian Students will have an opportunity to undertake studies at any of the following Centres of Excellence in the Philippines, contingent upon successful application to the University: University of the Philippines Diliman, De La Salle University, Ateneo de Manila University, University of Santo Tomas, and Central Luzon State University.
